Match Fit

When Brain Meets Brawn

September 25, 2020

It's so simple but so much fun.

Find the matching image on both cards.

Tap or click on one of the matching images and you'll get an activity to do for 30 seconds.

I could keep going on about it but you have to try it for yourself!

That's a free trial version. The full version of the game has 57 cards and 57 exercises and is available in the PLAY: Interactive Arcade. Or you can play the totally free YouTube version (see below).

So Many Ways to Play

I've been teaching this game for a couple weeks now and we've had so much fun. When I'm leading the activity, I'll have the students do something when they see the match. This way, it gives others time to find it. Here are a few things I've had them do:

  • Favorite dance
  • Touch your nose, ear, knee, etc (perfect for teaching bones/muscles)
  • Predict the action that goes with the match (ex. see a punching bag, start punching)
  • Shout it out. It's fun at the end of class to just have them shout it out. They love trying to be first and you can get a lot of activity in a short burst of time this way.I have also been pushing the game out to my students to play at home (something you can do with a School Membership to PLAY: Interactive Arcade)

Play for free on YouTube

Some of us are truly ballin on a budget these days and I didn't want to leave anybody out of the fun. So I made a YouTube version where you find the match, then do the activity! Check it out (This is round 1. More rounds coming soon)

👇 Need warm up games? Or brain breaks to share with classroom teachers? Check out my YouTube Channel. All games are available ad-free (with early access to new games) at the PLAY: Interactive Arcade.

Match Fit Mini

My kids love Match Fit, but if it's too tough for younger students (under 5), I made 4 decks of Match Fit Mini. With fewer images, even the youngest players can enjoy playing the game and getting active!

More Ways to Play

Coming soon to PLAY: Interactive Arcade is the Match Fit Icebreaker. On their devices, players will get a random card from the 4 Match Fit Mini decks. They find a player that has a matching image then they'll do an activity together that corresponds with that image.

FAQs

This isn't me in the exercises. It feels lazy?

Do the exercises with your students. While they're doing them, discuss the proper form or what that exercise is good for. Tons of ways to put your own spin on it. Customization options will be available to PLAY members with an Annual School subscription*

* This feature is very labor intensive and is considered an add-on purchase

Can I get physical cards?

YES! I'm working with printing companies to print real versions of these cards. I thought about a digital download but printing and laminating 57 cards isn't my idea of a good time. I'm not in a huge hurry because most people aren't sharing equipment anyway.

Why can't I download the game?

I made the game to be run as a web app so it can be played on any device (computer, tablet, phone). I tried a handful of different ways to create the game to make it as accessible as possible. Now, it will truly select random cards and it plays like a real game. It's incredible and I had to learn entirely new software to pull it off. I'm looking into turning it into an iOS app...

Why are you so awesome at making fun virtual games?

It's kind of a long story but it boils down to spending a lot of time in high school and college toying around with Photoshop. My favorite thing was post-photo photo-bombing. Where I'd download a friend's picture off Facebook, Photoshop myself into it, then post it like I was there. In my formative years of teaching, I learned basic design and animation so I could make quick videos for my students. It changed the way I taught. Years later, I quit teaching there because they made teaching miserable. I left the profession altogether and ended up using those videos I made to get a job with a tech startup.

In that gig, I started doing customer support but by the end of my time there, I had redesigned the entire app, did all the marketing, and made a ton of instructional videos. When that company went under, I started my current PE gig.

Now I'm at a school that encourages the creativity and I'm loving it.
