Home PE Challenges

April 18, 2020

Here are some fun challenges I've shared with my students. They're great because you can spend as much or as little time on them as you want. It's also a great way to be social with others that you may not be able to see in person. Kids can do the challenges with others via video chats or recording their best and sending to friends (or their teachers). Some even enjoy sharing on social media, which makes it enticing to work harder to go bigger and better.

I've had a blast seeing my kids' creativity and how much fun they have doing these with their families.

As I keep navigating through teaching PE at home, I will keep adding to this. Make sure to connect on Instagram (@bewellplayed), Twitter (@bewellplayed), and Facebook (Coach W from Be Well Played) to stay up to date on the newest additions.

Before getting into the challenges... Parents may be wondering what their kids are actually learning when they play these fun games. I highly recommend sharing this video or this post so they can see it's so much more than a good time.

The Challenges

Dance in Your Home 'Gym'

Who doesn't love dancing? Well... quite a few people. But when you get the family involved and have permission to be as ridiculous as you want, it's the perfect challenge.

I challenged my students to dance either by themselves or with their family. Favorite songs, favorite dance moves (but to keep it appropriate because I have small children at home who are helping me grade their work). And I sent out a video of my family's participation.

Paper Ball Trick Shot

This was a such a fun idea that I challenged my friends and colleagues as well as my students. You should definitely check out Ben Landers' (aka The PE Specialist) attempt here.

Here's the full description.

One of my students went all in on his take of the challenge.

If you post on Twitter or Instagram, make sure to use the hashtag #PaperBallTrickShotChallenge

Slam Dunk

Chuck Rush

Set a toy several feet in front of you. Throw a plastic grocery sack in the air, run to the toy and back in time to catch your bag. Every time you catch, move the toy further away. How far can you go when you chuck & rush?
