Ultimate Kickball is my favorite game ever. It maximizes the fun of kickball and eliminates the worst parts of the game, making it fun for all players. Here's how to modify the game to play at home, with fewer players (even by yourself).
All you need is a paper ball, a cup, and a blanket.

Parents may be wondering what their kids are actually learning when they play these fun games. I highly recommend sharing this video so they can see it's so much more than a good time.
One Player Ultimate Kickball
Single Player Ultimate Kickball is all about seeing how many points you can get. It's a race against time.
Every play starts with a kick from Home Plate and ends with the cup being knocked down. So the player will kick the ball, then run after it to grab it and throw it at the cup. You want to kick it as close to the cup as possible.
Rules:
- You must throw from where you pick up the ball. You can't take any steps with the ball. This would be Traveling.
- You cannot throw from the Pin Zone (on top of the blanket).
*If the ball lands in the Pin Zone, plant a foot outside of the zone before getting the ball. This way, you can pivot back outside of the Pin Zone. Otherwise, you'll need to throw the ball out of the Pin Zone before throwing back at the cup.
Scoring:
- Throw knocks over cup: 1 point
- Kick knocks over the cup: 3 points
- Kick makes it in the cup: 5 points
Set a timer for two minutes and see how many points you can get.
Check out this free web-based app I made that counts your score over two minutes. It runs in your browser on any device: computer, tablet, or phone. And you don't need to download anything.
If you're really up for a challenge, see if you can keep up playing against me. Just play this video and try to keep up.
Multi-Player Ultimate Kickball
Multi-Player Ultimate Kickball requires a little more strategy.
Every play starts with a kick from Home Plate and ends with the cup being knocked down. The kicker will kick and run back and forth between Home Plate and the Base to get points. The fielder tries to end the play as quickly as possible by grabbing the ball and throwing it at the cup to knock it down.
If the cup goes down while the kicker is off a base, that player is out and the fielder gets 2 points for getting them out.
Scoring:
Kicker makes it from Home Plate to The Base and back to Home Plate: 1 point
Fielder gets the runner out: 2 points
